It’s a Date, Chocolate!

I don’t easily get swayed by packaging when it comes to candy bars but something caught my attention and it pulled me wanting for more. I’m talking about unit16sweets chocolates and it’s really funny how their company name came from their condominium unit “Unit 16” but amusing as they are, I think they’re very serious with their product.

Unit16Sweets Chocolates are colorful, fun, and personalized. You can actually use them to make souvenirs for your parties especially weddings when you need more useful and sensible gifts to thank your visitors. The best part about these chocolates is that they come from Davao. Who wouldn’t want to support that? Buy Local, right?! In fact, I thought the whole business was just a re-packaging business out of Hersheys Candy Bars and I’m not about to exaggerate it but I think Mars Company and Hersheys should watch their back because if the kind of chocolate I tasted is what the future of our local confectionary industry would look like then for sure, they’ll be getting a run for their money.

Costing PhP50 a piece from where I bought them in Robinsons Forum, the Dark Chocolate Peppermint tastes so alike Andes Mint Chocolates. They’re delicious! That’s no exaggerating. Consider this: Compute how much imported candies are and compute the value of supporting Philippines-made products? Who would you rather support? Now, wouldn’t you care about the fifty bucks I gave? Of course not! It will all be for a good cause and that is to support upcoming businesses, micro entrepreneurs is what I call ’em.

The concept, the idea, the flavors are very exceptional that I volunteered to feature them here and that has nothing to do with the tasting yet. After trying one out, I thought more people should know about this.

If you’re looking for personalized gifts, souvenirs for weddings, debutante’s parties, giveaways for events then you might want to consider re-branding your affairs with this love for chocolate. That’s why I didn’t have a problem naming my post, “It’s a Date, Chocolate!” because this is one sweetheart you don’t want to let go.

Coming Soon: Wireless Electricity for Your Home

(Editor’s Note: After reading, please join our survey found at the end our post. We appreciate your insight on this new technology. We’ll keep you posted with news and updates regarding this invention. Join our Facebook Page after. Thanks!)

Wireless electricity will be coming to our shores in the very near future. That is if our government agencies will embrace this technology today.

The technology is called highly resonant wireless power transfer and the Inventors uses the same principle as to what we use today in our cooking, Induction Cooking. Induction uses magnets to create energy and in this invention, instead of releasing heat, it produces electricity because of a receiver that induces electricity that powers our every day gadgets and appliances.

a single power source that can charge all your lights, appliances, and even cars - wirelessly!
a single power source that can charge all your lights, appliances, and even cars – wirelessly!

The idea is to create a single source of electricity and eliminate any outlets in the house or any wirings that could trip you or harm your kids in the process of discovery. The transmitter emits magnetic waves so this is not harmful to human or to pets in the house. It’s actually going to be revolutionary because it will mean huge savings for people building new homes in the future.

Witricity, the founder of the technology, are busy studying how this could be used to power different appliances in the house that requires more wattage and how it could send varying charges needed to power cars or refrigerators. Dr. Katie Hall, CTO of Witricity, expects to complete their study by 2016.

Read here how it works.

Exciting developments as we will soon see a more clutter-free home that moms and geeks would love in the very near future.

Hey Mister, try Some new Donuts!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

There is this new Mister Donut in Greenfields District that I wanted to try for the longest time. So this afternoon my husband Kris and I finally checked it out.

I took my sweet time choosing which donut is good. As a habit I always ask for the best seller and I was told that I should try All Chocolate Pon-De-Ring.

It pays to know which one is best but of course I always decide which one I want to try so I got the White Chocolate with Almond. I wanted to pair it with hot chocolate but it’s not available.  So I ordered brewed coffee instead, but then decide that Kris can just have it with his Cinnamon Do-ssant. I’m not big on coffee that’s why.

I liked how those bite-size balls come in clusters and I love that it’s chewy.

Its sweetness is just right and perfect with brewed coffee. The ‘Do-ssant’ Kris ordered was Bavarian-filled and served warm. He was not a fan of Bavarian but said it was good nonetheless.

What made our trip to Mister Donut a little sweeter is Corr, their crew/cashier. She smiles all the time and that’s one thing I always consider.

In fact, she was the reason I opted to stay even though they don’t have hot cocoa. Business owners must realize how valuable customer service is when it comes to pleasing customers. It is the kind of relationship that keeps business afloat despite some shortcomings that may occur. May Corr’s tribe increase.

Kopiko Launches White Coffee, CafeBlanca

After their successful Kopiko Black and Brown 3-in-1 coffee mixes, Pt Torabika Eka Semesta of Indonesia who introduced this to coffee-crazed Filipinos is now introducing a White variant called CafeBlanca. If I know any better, this one is out to challenge the other White Coffee 3-in-1 mix that is hogging this segment right now, Great Taste White Coffee (by Universal Robina Corporation). Incidentally, Kopiko’s White Coffee brand is known outside The Philippines but Great Taste beat them to the punch so now they have to introduce a new name for it — CafeBlanca.

We saw this variant today and my verdict? Well, just wait for it tomorrow as we reveal who I think will grab the limelight. For now, try to grab this coffee sachets at your favorite grocery, supermarket, or even wholesale stores today.

You saw it first here in New In The Market!

Happy Meal Box Makes a Comeback

The iconic Happy Meal packaging makes a 'jolly' comeback
The iconic Happy Meal packaging makes a ‘jolly’ comeback

Thankfully, McDonald’s brought back — albeit FINALLY! — the winsome Happy Meal Box packaging it’s always known for. We drove thru a in a nearby McDonald and got this sunny surprise that my wife (who was a McDonald’s crew at one time in her life) wondered not so long ago as I recall — why they would let go of this engaging packaging. I remember back in the 90s and even 80s when McDonald’s Crews usually handover Happy Meal boxes with enjoyable toys and fries inside, however, recently they would just give a tray, food, and a toy wrapped in a plastic. Not entirely magical if you ask me!

The box is unmistakably kiddie and it completes a kid’s happiness when they see their favorite thematic toys every time they buy a McDonald’s meal. So successful is this ‘ploy’ to have a toy in their order that it usually becomes enough reason to pass by McD’s to make my child’s day. In fact, it becomes a parent’s reward for their little one’s remarkable feat of obedience, excellence, and merit.

McDonald’s, you have a very good product in Happy Meal. I hope you won’t let go of this useful product and packaging because not only does it give happiness to my kid with all the free toys you give but because of the complete budget that makes it truly a Happy Meal for Daddy and Mommy too. Pa-para-pa-pa…Love ko’to!

Facebook Graph Search and The Filipinos

For Filipinos will it be the battle royale or the battle - loyal?
For Filipinos will it be the battle royale or the battle – loyal?

For those of you who don’t know it yet, Facebook launched the much anticipated product they announced (which I personally didn’t hear until recently) that could give their investors something to smile about and increase their IPO value: the Facebook Graph Search

What search?

Facebook Graph Search.

It sounds like a search engine for your Mathematics or Science class but it’s really a search engine…just…with a bad name. Well, it’ll catch up soon considering you have to analyze what does Graph have to do with web searching right? It does if you know the inert of Web Searching.

Mark Zuckerberg showed promise with his new creation
Mark Zuckerberg showed promise with his new creation

Anyway, Mark Zuckerberg, Co-founder and CEO of Facebook promised that this is something BIG, so BIG some news media thinks it will give Google a run for its money but our question remains, “Will it?”

Filipinos rank number eight in the number of Facebook users all over the globe. We have more than thirty million users and the number is still growing, however, to a lot of its users Facebook is just a social network – a place where people hang out and not for web searching to help you with your assignments, projects, homeworks, business, and even reviews of the best this and the best that.

Filipinos usually email through Yahoo!, get together through Twitter or Facebook but when they search stuff, they ‘Google it!’ So to actually sell this search thing to Filipinos, it will be a huge undertaking for Facebook. Now, FB is boasting to have a trillion connection, hundred millions of photos, and a billion users but again to a Filipino…we don’t care that much unless it means providing information about Sales events or Discount Days or even increasing the number of friends who have the same interest that you are searching for, which I guess will be something good for this search engine.

So what is Facebook Graph Search good for? Well, Mr. Zuckerberg didn’t say much but as I made some research myself, it seems that – at first – Facebook is just good for searching what is – ALREADY EXISTING on Facebook. Meaning, it can search things that are exclusively Facebook content like photos, places, pictures, reviews, portraits…wait…did I just keep on saying images and pictures? Yes, it’s big on searching its database that contain pictures and lots of it! But make no mistake, Facebook has teamed up with Microsoft’s BING search (2009) and Bing teamed up with Yahoo! Search (rolled out expectedly in 2012), which means if the thing you’re looking for is not in Facebook, Graph Search will use Bing and Yahoo! (by extension) to provide you with alternative searches.

The young will decide FB's new product's fate
The young will decide FB’s new product’s fate

So will Facebook be the proverbial David that slays the gigantic Google Goliath in web searching domain? That is not yet sure because we found out several things to ask Facebook in light of all these advances they promised. Besides, Facebook’s database – per se – versus Google’s is like comparing a lake versus an ocean! Also, Graph Search hasn’t rolled out completely so one has to sign up just to get the announcement, which may be very soon.

So for now, Google will remain and increase its stock among Filipinos searching the web for various ‘stuff’ but they will wait to see if Facebook can convince them to change what they’re already used to. So will we soon hear people say, “Facebook it!” or will it still be, “Google it!” The latter still sounds more credible.
